Overcome Self-SabotageIf you have been coaching or counseling for any length of time, you already know that Self-Sabotage runs deeper than most of your clients realize. Most will try to cover up the sabotage, i.e., try to “look good” in spite of the fact that his or her life may be falling apart!

Most people who suffer from self-sabotage may not even be aware they are doing it. In these cases, your coaching can provide a great service by merely pointing out the offending behavior and letting them self-correct.

Getting clients beyond their self-stopping usually involves the following 4 Steps:

  1. Helping the client get clear on goals,
  2. Helping to develop a positive self-talk through the use of affirmations, hypnosis, NLP or other similar techniques, and
  3. Setting regular sessions to make sure he or she is following up on your recommendations.

But what about the cases where the client KNOWS he or she is engaging in self-sabotage . . . but feel helpless to change it? What about the cases where “fate” seems to be playing the biggest role in their failures?

In such cases, the above 4 steps alone will not eliminate the Self-Sabotage. If they do, it is usually because the AWARENESS of the sabotaging behavior has been such that the inner “trigger” to the sabotage has suddenly changed inside. The “hidden decision” – the a priori root of the sabotage itself – suddenly changes.

In order to show you how and why most coaching programs are limited, I’ve put together a 10-minute video that explains the Roots of Self-Sabotage in a way that hopefully makes the case of adding another weapon to your coaching arsenal.
