Today I’ve decided to write about a subject I’m deeply familiar with: fear. This is an emotion that can shatter your dreams and stop you from living your life. Fear has stolen many years of my life, and the lives of others. For many, in fact, it is the primary motivator of the subconscious mind.
So how DO you get beyond fear?
As a life coach, you must have tools and the understanding to help move your client beyond his or her fears. The first step is to realize that you often attract clients with problems or concerns that you yourself need to look at in your own life.
So do you have fear? If so, where does it reside? What does it look like? How do you get beyond fear?
There is, by the way, nothing wrong with being afraid. We are all afraid of something! This brings to mind Frank Herbert’s famous quote from the novel Dune:
“I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.”
While everyone may have fear from time to time, chronic fear is unnatural. It is the prolonging of fear that creates stress hormones, disease, and a life full of drama and toxicity. When you work with a life coaching client who expresses recurrent or prolonged fears, just realize that you’re mainly listening to fear talking. Help the client to understand that recurrent fear is not who they are. In fact, they are perfect. Prolonged fear is garbage that only gets in the way of their perfection.
It’s important to understand that fear is only useful when it warns us of real danger. When there is no actual danger, it should be seen for what it is: a “mind virus” or a false belief that keeps perpetuating itself. It is a behavior that keeps playing over and over again in our minds. At some point, the subconscious mind learned to fear. It made a decision to be afraid of something and believes it to be true and logical.
The only way to be free of fear is to change the inner decision that keeps it alive. You may have had an experience as a child that made you afraid. Your subconscious remembers this even if you do not, and reacts to any similar experience with that same fear. By using the biofeedback tools in the Logical Soul® method, you can access this hidden decision and change it.
I’ve utilized the Logical Soul® method many times to remove fear. My journey has revealed that all kinds of experiences, large and small, can create fear-based decisions. It can be a long road when fear has built so many walls in your mind. However, as a life coach you know that there is always hope. One only has to keep walking to get to the destination.
The Four Facts of Fear:
- You are not the fear. You are, in fact, perfect.
- Most fear is a learned behavior or “mind virus”.
- Accept fear for what it is (a false belief).
- Let go of fear by changing your hidden decisions.
Everyone experiences fear sometimes, even coaches. Think about the above facts the next time you feel fear; you may be surprised at the results. And don’t be afraid to receive more life coaching tips – download Dr. Craig’s free report to build a stronger practice today!
