After attending Module 3 of the Logical Soul® Life Coach Certification this weekend, I was exhausted. We had a fantastic time reviewing the Logical Soul® process for newcomers as well as giving and receiving sessions as a group. Many of us had major breakthroughs, whether we resolved an age old issue, learned more about the Logical Soul® process, or took another strong step in the right direction. It was a lot of fun but also intense!
So, my plan was to rest today. Take it easy. Catch up on e-mail and other small things. Instead, I found myself pacing from room to room, irritated beyond measure. I wanted to take everything that I didn’t absolutely need or love and throw it out the window. Suddenly, I had too much stuff and it all needed to be dealt with immediately.
We’ve all been told that organization and cleanliness are important, but today I found myself wondering why. Here is what I came up with:
- Efficiency. When your things are organized, you know exactly where they are and you don’t waste time looking for them. You’re also less likely to accidentally buy the same thing twice – or more. In life coaching, keeping your clients, paper work, and appointments organized allows everything to run more smoothly.
- Clarity. Keeping track of your responsibilities allows you to remain focused on each task you perform. You don’t have to worry about forgetting something important later or being unprepared. Free tools like Google Calendar and Remember the Milk are great for staying on top of things.
- Integrity. By being organized, you know what you can and can’t do. You can keep your promises to yourself and others. This is the basis of self-discipline, which is exactly what you need to combat procrastination and laziness. The more integrity you have, the more confident and relaxed you can be day to day.
- Energy. Having a clean, organized schedule and environment frees up a TON of energy. By staying focused on activities that are important and getting them done, you don’t waste so much energy worrying, making up for lost time, and stressing out. Having a clutter-free environment helps keep the mind relaxed and cuts down on distraction. If you are familiar with energy work or Feng Shui, you may also know that clutter allows for negative energy to accumulate and become toxic, like a stagnant pool of water. By clearing your space, you can allow life energy to flow naturally.
Needless to say, I spent a lot of time organizing today. And you know what? I feel much lighter.
